A quick-service chain wanted to be part of the Saudi dates season without selling dates. The answer was a campaign that moves: from the farms of Al-Ahsa, to a box of dates accompanying every meal, to people’s homes.
Season in MotionThe dates season in Saudi Arabia is a national season: markets, festivals, and boxes of dates travelling between homes. A shawarma and burger brand has no product in this season, and had it offered the usual “seasonal deal” it would have dissolved among many similar offers. The question was: how does a quick-service brand enter the dates season genuinely, rather than with a discount?
In Saudi Arabia, dates are not just food but a symbol of hospitality: served with coffee, given in boxes, carrying the meaning of generosity in every home. A brand that offers dates with its meal is not selling dates; it is telling its customer “you are our guest”, a feeling that outlasts the effect of any discount.
The name was drawn from the phrase with which the season is welcomed; the verb “hal” carries both arrival and welcome at once. Beneath it sits the campaign’s English title, Season in Motion: a season that moves, because the campaign was built as a journey rather than a post: it begins in the farms of Al-Ahsa with those who harvest the ratab by hand, passes through the restaurant, and ends in the hand of a child carrying boxes of dates home.
At the heart of the campaign is a special box of dates that arrives with the meal. It was deliberately designed in the language of the old date boxes every Saudi home knows: the two palms, the dallah and cups, the words “Premium Dates” in their familiar script, and the stamp “It's a سعودي thing”. On the inner box runs the campaign line: “From the palms of Saudi Arabia… to every home in Saudi Arabia”. Nostalgia here is not decoration; it is the message.

The shoot left the studio for the farm, with real faces: a farmer harvesting ratab with rope and sickle and walking among the palms, then the restaurant with its customers, then a child carrying the boxes. Three stops tell the whole story without a line of explanation.

You do not need to sell the season’s product to own the season. It is enough to find the symbol the audience understands, here dates as hospitality, and build around it an idea that moves: a name, packaging, a photographed story, and a product that reaches the customer’s hand. This is what you take away from the “Concept Building” package: half a day in which your brand’s symbol, its seasonal idea and its launch plan are defined, for you to execute with your team or with a team recommended to you.
Idea creation and development with the team, and creative direction of the work through House of Idea: Mohammed Alhasoon. Execution, from photography and design to production and final direction: ThirtyThree Media Group. Good work here is team work, and this page presents a way of thinking rather than an individual achievement.
